People Magazine (People Weekly) is a weekly US magazine of celebrity and human interest stories.
Each year, since 1985, People Magazine chooses 1 male celebrity for their “Sexiest Man Alive” Award. The original idea came about when a magazine editor exclaimed that Mel Gibson was the sexiest man alive. It then progressed into becoming a yearly feature, along with their “The Most Beautiful People” and “The Best and Worst Dressed” features.
The award has been given out annually, except for 1993 when the award was given to both Richard Gere and Cindy Crawford as the “Sexiest Couple of the Year” and in 1994 when no award was given at all.
